If you’ve suffered from vaginal discharge you know how uncomfortable, undesirable and shameful it can be. I’ve been suffering from strange discharge for about eight months now. Over the past several months I’ve been to the doctor, tried antibiotics for BV, bought many other treatments over the counter and replenished my pantyliner reserve but I think I finally found the magical cure to my problem: acidophilus.
I think I finally found the magical cure to my problem: acidophilus
For months I’ve been searching the Internet for testimonials and reviews on products that could possibly help me out. There was no way I was going back to Urgent Care . Not only do they not actually have an OB but I always get the same doctor who tells me I have BV and always sends me home with antibiotics that don’t work. I had read about acidophilus before but never looked into the product. I’m not a fan of natural remedies and I had no desire to visit a health store. I don’t think there’s a particular reason for that, I just always figured natural remedies weren’t as good as medicinal products somehow. But after trying various products including antibiotics and being at my wits ends, I visited an online retailer and ordered a bottle of Lactobacilus Acidophilus with 1.5 billion cultures.
It’s important to realize that there are two types of acidophilus; the one you keep on the counter and the one you have to refrigerate. I tried both – keep reading to see which one worked best for me.
In short, acidophilus is one of the good types of bacteria naturally present in your body. To promote good vaginal health, the balance of this type of bacteria along with other elements of your vagina needs to be healthy. By taking acidophilus pills you are supposedly rebalancing the elements present in your vagina by using good bacterial to overcome the bad.
I bought a bottle of about 60 caplets for less than $10, so it’s fair to say that this is a very economical solution to your feminine problems. Instructions will usually say to take 2 caplets once a day with or without a meal, however make sure that you read the directions correctly as it may vary from one brand to another.
According to my research you want to make sure to purchase acidophilus with more than 1 billion live bacteria, as these are more powerful and will offer better results. You also need to check if you need to refrigerate after opening. The first bottle I bought didn’t need to be refrigerated, but my second purchase had to be refrigerated for better conservation of the bacteria. This depends on the brand you purchase, but most brands will suggest refrigeration after opening to maintain the level of live cultures.
My Experience With Acidophilus
As I have mentioned in previous posts, my discharge wasn’t smelly or didn’t look so wrong that I’ve ever been alarmed. It was just rather thick, looked a bit too yellowish to my taste and I had to change my pantyliner once a day to feel comfortable and dry down there.
I started my acidophilus journey with caplets that didn’t need to be refrigerated. I took two per day, in the morning. Some days I even went overboard and doubled the dosage to see if a difference would be noticed; I took two pills twice a day; in the morning and in the afternoon. I can’t say that I noticed much of a difference in my discharge. I took those pills for a little while – maybe around 10 to 15 days.
I can say that the acidophilus do work because I’m almost back to normal.
Then one day, while grocery shopping, I found a bottle of acidophilus that needed to be refrigerated after opening. Many online reviews will tell you that the refrigerated kind works better, so I just had to try. I got home and immediately took two pills before stuffing the bottle in the refrigerator. It’s now been almost 14 days – I take two pills twice a day – and there is a difference. It gets better day after day. I’m religiously wearing pantyliners because I want to be able to see the difference and notice changes. Even after the first few days I started noticing a decrease in the amount of discharge I had to deal with within a day. The color also came back to something more normal. What a relief! I can say that the acidophilus do work because I’m almost back to normal. There’s less and less discharge, the color is much less yellow than it was and the texture has also changed to something less thick. I can see a very big improvement from what it was a few weeks ago and I cannot sing the praises of refrigerated acidophilus enough!
Acidophilus: The Verdict
If you are suffering from discharge and just don’t know what to do, go out and get your hands on a bottle of refrigerated acidophilus. The brand doesn’t even matter; the articles I read online all featured different brands and the product I am using is some sort of obscure no-name brand only available at my grocery store. Nevertheless it works and it does wonders. As I said before, it’s only been 14 days and I can already see dramatic results. I’m convinced that everything will be back to normal within a few days at this point; I’m almost there!
I am somewhat preoccupied by the fact that I may have to take these caplets on a regular basis for a while, but it is so inexpensive that the cost really is negligible. I would recommend this product to anyone who’s desperate to find a cure for their imbalance and can’t seem to get a straight answer from their doctor. I wish I had found acidophilus much earlier!
